Spin Top Competition for Beads of Courage December 2016

As 2014 was an election year for local councils, member Barry Robinson suggested a project to make and present gavels to each of the councils of which we have members. Thanks to much organizing by Barry and the contribution of many members of the guild new gavels were presented to the following councils.

Belleville, Quinte West, Tweed, Stirling, Brighton and Port Hope.

Empty Bowls Fundraiser 2017

Members of the guild held a spin top competition. The objects were to have fun at our Christmas meeting by turning in several tops and spinning them off to see whose top spun the longest time. The winner, Dave Wheeler was crowned "Top Turner 2016". All of the tops were donated to Beads of Courage to be distributed to children spending the holidays in hospitals.

Empty Bowls is a fundraiser to help support Gleaners Food Bank. This food bank is the largest in the Quinte Region Food Share Shelter (QRFSS). This Region includes Hastings, Prince Edward and Eastern Northumberland Counties. Bowls are donated by potters and QWG to be given out at the fundraiser. In 2017 one could purchase a ticket for $20.00 which the holder could get a soup and sandwich lunch and select a hand crafted bowl to take home. QWG donated 63 bowls for this and also demonstrated wood turning on site by turning spin tops and bowls.
